Chapter 6 : Atlas
"What's that noise?" said Nella Della. "Is something
happening outside?"
"There's a whole crowd of people out in the street," shouted Jonathan,
who had climbed up onto the windowsill.
"A hundred easy! And they're pointing at our house."
They had been little for a whole week now: Mr. Blom, Jonathan, Nella
Della and Wiplala too, of course, although he'd never been any bigger.
They were little pixies in their own gigantic house. It hadn't been
too bad, but they were starting to feel lonely; apart from the cleaning
lady, they hadn't spoken to a soul in all that time.
"Oh blast, I can see Mrs. Dingeman's husband! She must have told
him after all, about us being so small. And now everyone's come
to have a look. I can see the mayor too. And a policeman! Oh Daddy,
I'm scared - we have to hide," said Nella Della. "Please, let's
hide."
"But they can't get in."
"They can too. They're coming in. Every last one of them. They're
already inside."
