Longmount and the Major

Behind the Pill Building there was a small park with a canal flowing through it. One morning Pluck drove past in his tow truck.
Suddenly he stopped. There was something weird in the water. He could see it sticking up above the surface... it was brown... it had a tail... oh goodness, it was a horse's bottom!
"A drowned horse..." mumbled Pluck, shaken. "That's terrible." He got out and walked over to the waterside. Yes, now he could see it perfectly. The rear end of a horse. And the head was nowhere in sight.
"The poor thing," said Pluck. "Its head must be stuck in the mud." He looked around for someone to help him, but there was no one in sight. Then he saw something else sticking out of the water a bit further along.
Pluck walked up to it. To his astonishment it was another horse. This time it was a horse's head!
"Two horses in the canal!" exclaimed Pluck.
"No, just one!" answered the head.
"One?" said Pluck. "That's not true... there are two of you! I just saw another horse over there."
"That's me as well," the horse moaned.
