On the back of this book:
Maybe Even True is Annie M.G. Schmidt's own
selection of her children's stories. Towards the end of her life, she
reread all the stories she had ever written, slashing mercilessly. She
dearly wanted to see the resulting collection published under the title
Maybe Even True.
We are left with the stories from Sebastian Spider, the stories
from Witches and That, and the fabulous "Out with Miss Button".
Annie was also happy for "Frizzie" to be saved for posterity, along with
"Tom and Grandma" and the series "The Trapeze". The stories have been
illustrated by the twenty illustrators who have been honored with Golden
Paintbrushes over the last twenty-five years.
They are: Dick Bruna, Tom Eyzenbach, Harrie Geelen,
Friso Henstra, Alfons van Heusden, Margriet Heymans, Wim Hofman, Paul
Hulshof, Jan Jutte, Piet Klaasse, Joke van Leeuwen, Lidia Postma, Joost
Roelofsz, Dieter Schubert, Geerten Ten Bosch, Thé Tjong-Khing, Max Velthuijs,
Jan Marinus Verburg, Peter Vos, and... Fiep Westendorp.
