"That'll be Fluff," Tibbs said to himself.
"The little devil! He's trying to get the fish bones from the garbage
can. And he's already had a whole fillet. I'd better go and have
a look before he upsets the can completely. 1'll only have to sweep
everything up."
Tibbs stood up and opened the kitchen door.
And he nearly jumped out of his skin.
It wasn't Fluff. It was a young woman. The young woman from the
tree. And she was busy rummaging through his garbage can. There
was only one way she could have got in-through the skylight.
She turned around as soon as she heard him. She had a big fish bone
in her mouth. She looked so much like a timid wet stray cat that
Tibbs had to stop himself from shouting, "Scat! Be off with you!"
But he didn't say anything.
She took the bone out of her mouth and gave him a friendly smile.
She had slightly slanting green eyes.
"Please forgive me," she said. "I was sitting on the roof with your
cat, Fluff. And the smell was so wonderful. So I climbed in through
the skylight. He's still outside."
