"This is the ladies'," snapped Vera. "You're not
allowed in here."
"Sorry," said the journalist, "but what do you think of this delay?"
"Extremely unpleasant," said Vera.
"Completely irrelevant," said Millie. "But we're entertaining each other
perfectly, my colleague and I."
The stationmaster was called to the telephone. For something important,
they said.
"Hello," he said. "This is Whiskers," he heard. And since he was already
extremely annoyed by the new delay, his temper rose quickly to boiling
point.
"A bomb under the train?" he shouted. "I'm onto you, you lunatic. You
want to ruin everything, don't you? Because I gave you the boot. What
a low-down trick. And now excuse me, I've got work to do."
"Has the train left yet?" asked Whiskers quickly.
"The train is leaving in seven minutes and nothing you can do will stop
it," snapped the stationmaster.
"Now as I said, I've got work to do."
