Excerpt from the story: Locked Up

  She took hold of Messy-Lou's collar and picked Grubber up by the scruff of his neck and marched them upstairs to the bathroom. Just this once, she ran the bath with turpentine, because soap and water weren't enough to get the paint off.

After lots of scrubbing and scouring, Messy-Lou and Grubber were squeaky clean again.

But the bath looked like this.

And then the visitors arrived.
A man and a woman.
It was very pleasant,
it's true.
But once they had left and
were walking down the street,
the lady said,
"Isn't it odd that such
a respectable little girl
should have such
a sloppy mother?"
"Very odd indeed,"
